School Counselor
Ms. Begel
Hello and Bienvenidos! Thank you for checking out my school counseling page. Please check back periodically for updates on what social, emotional or behavioral skill your child is working on with me in their classroom. But first, a little about me...
I am a proud MPS graduate (go Riverside!!) and have been a Milwaukee resident my whole life. I graduated from UW-Milwaukee in 2000 and received my Master's Degree in Counseling in 2010 from Lakeland University. I have been an employee of MPS since 2013, starting as a 3rd grade Paraprofessional and then moving to my current role as a school counselor in 2017. I absolutely love what I do and love the students at Greenfield Bilingual. I find their endless smiles, happy faces, warm hugs and genuine excitement for school to be the energetic!!
When I am not teaching your child about friendship skills, character education, career options, high school readiness, mindfulness and other social/emotional skills, I enjoy spending time with my own two children outside! I love all things beach and snow, which makes living in Milwaukee the perfect place for me. I love to read and go out to eat and spend time with my extended family as well!
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any concerns about your child and their ability to be the most successful student you know they can be. I see my job as one where I am not done working until your child has all the skills they need to be successful members of our Greenfield Community as well as society in general. I help students with friendship problems (like bullying), anger management skills, study skills, high school readiness (choosing a high school that best matches their skills/interests), organizational skills, positive relationships, and many other topics. I can be reached at smokoas@milwaukee.k12.wi.us or 414-902-8255.
Thank you!!

third grade
fourth grade
During the month of January, 4th graders have been working on learning about having a Growth Mindset! Here, students are placing statements in the correct categories of growth mindset or fixed mindset. Students also worked on solving 10 riddles as part of an escape room challenge. The riddles were pretty tricky and they didn't solve all of them but the important thing is they didn't give up and kept trying. That's having a GROWTH MINDSET!
fifth grade
Students in fifth grade worked on the skill perseverance. They learned that even though it is a really long word, it's actually quite simple to do and they've been doing it since they were babies! Ask them what I mean:) Students used perseverance in thinking about how people communicate using sign language and they themselves worked hard and did not quit until they memorized how to spell "perseverance" in sign language. Quiz them to see if they still remember!!!
In January, students have been learning about what i means to have a growth mindset! Here students in Ms. Reyes' class are deciding whether or not statements represent someone with a growth mindset or fixed mindset. Ask your student to tell you the difference between the two!!! |
